The Oasis Du Sud Marocain Biosphere Reserve

The Oasis Du Sud Marocain Biosphere Reserve is found in eastern Morocco within the Atlas Mountains. It borders the high Atlas Mountains in the north while the west is bordered by anti Atlas, Alluvial plains, depression and the Hamadas desert.

The bio-sphere is estimated to occupy nearly 7 million hectares as a buffer for desertification and the extension of the Sahara desert. It is actually a rich bio-diversity of a system of oases that are important to the agricultural community in the desert and the growth of date-palms, olives, cereals, and potatoes

The biosphere reserve also hosts the World Heritage Site Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou, designated for its architectural and historic value. Besides the site, the reserve includes high altitude forest zone of Acacia woodlands, rocky cliffs, man-made lakes, sand dunes, mountain lakes palm oases and desert steppes among others.

The reserve is a great tourist destination for naturalists and hikers. The breathtaking landscape, people, plants grown around the oases and its unique habitats make the lists of interesting Morocco holiday attractions.
